Recent North American Wind Power Articles Regarding Wind Anomalies Worth Noting
Two recent articles in North American Windpower discuss first quarter 2015 wind anomalies for certain projects — resulting in 5% production drops in the first quarter of 2015, and as much as a 20% drop in January. While meteorological review suggests these drops are not outside the range of what should be expected, they confirm wind anomalies should be factored in to a lease turbine revenue analysis. In a hypothetical analysis performed by LeaseGen, three production drops of this magnitude (1.25% annually) over the course of a project’s estimated 30-year useful life resulted in an approximate drop in value of 1.5%, a significant percentage where a considerable number of turbines are installed.
